As one of the 18 districts in Hong Kong, the Central and Western (C&W) District is located along the northwestern coast of Hong Kong Island. The east of the C&W District connects to the Wan Chai District while the south is adjacent to the Southern District. The northern side of the C&W District overlooks the Yau Tsim Mong District and the Kwai Tsing District across the Victoria Harbour, and the western waters adjoins the Islands District.

Endowed with a long history, the C&W District is rich in cultural diversity, where East meets West and the past blends with the present. With the hustle and bustle existing alongside the natural countryside, the district is a magnet for citizens and visitors alike.

The C&W District is the earliest developed area in the territory since the very beginning, and has now become the political and economic centre of Hong Kong. It is home to the Government House, the Central Government Offices of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal, and the Legislative Council Complex, among other important institutions. The C&W District also serves as an indispensable part of the central business district of Hong Kong as the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, headquarters of various banks, and international financial institutions can all be found in the district.

Beyond its cosmopolitan glamour and prosperity, the C&W District also preserves a number of famous monuments and historic buildings, including the Central Police Station Compound (also known as “Tai Kwun”), the Central Market and the Former Hollywood Road Police Married Quarters (also known as “PMQ”), which have become hot spots upon conservation and revitalisation.

Although skyscrapers are seen along the coast in the C&W District, lush greenery can still be found on the hillside. Meandering uphill from 1 Tramway Path to the junction of Chatham Path and Barker Road, the Central Green Trail has been very popular with visitors. In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR, the Central and Western District Office sets to enhance the Central Green Trail and has revamped the signage and produced a new pamphlet at this stage. We are about to further extend the Trail by incorporating new technology to make your experience even richer and more colourful.
